Happy New Year!
Railroad crossing, Superior, Wis. Taken in the parking lot of Dan’s Feed Bin. I like all the boxy shapes that appear in this picture.
Vinyl Cave, Superior, Wis. One of my favorite record stores in America closed Dec. 31. Owners Tom Johnson, left, and Tom Unterberger posed for a picture I took for a Perfect Duluth Day news story on the closing.
World of Accordions Museum, Superior, Wis. Helmi Strahl Harrington, Ph.D is the curator of the World of Accordions Museum. Stay tuned for a future blog post on this place.
Lincoln Park, Duluth, Minn. I’m starting to document “no parking” signs in Duluth and Superior. This is one of my first photos for the project.
CSL Niagara, Superior Entry, Superior, Wis. Jen and I hiked out Minnesota Point to the Superior ship canal. We got lucky as this 739 foot ship was leaving port with a load of ore.
Cook Book, St. Michael’s Catholic Church rummage sale. Duluth, Minn. I found a great collection of antique cooking pamphlets at this sale. This is one of my favorites.
Inside 1012 Ogden Ave. Superior, Wis. A Superior antique dealer held an auction inside this old building. Buyers could walk through the building and preview items. I took this picture on the stairs to the second floor.
Western Lake Superior Sanitary District Materials Recovery Center, Duluth, Minn. Jen found her old bike at the Duluth dump in June. Officials monitor materials discarded at the dump. If an item is deemed salvageable it is set aside and offered to others for free. Jen didn’t keep the bike. Instead, we took home a green couch for our living room.
Leo & Mary, Chester Creek, Duluth, Minn. My sister Mary and her son Leo visited in March. We hiked along the Chester Creek Trail.
Tettegouche State Park, Silver Bay, Minn. On a winter hike up the Baptism River. This view looks out to Lake Superior.
Pudge’s Bar, Superior, Wis. Pudge’s Bar owner Walter Haugen has a wonderful collection of architectural artifacts on display. He knows the history behind all of them.
Brighton Beach, Duluth, Minn. I took this after a Lake Superior ice storm.
